January, 11, 2012 - AMITYVILLE – A new report shows that Broadlawn Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is a powerful player in the local economy, contributing $83.5 million to the region annually. Broadlawn Manor is operated by The Long Island Home, a not-for-profit organization located on the Nassau/Suffolk border on Long Island, and provides adult day services, dementia care, nursing home care, subacute care and rehabilitation. November 4, 2011 - The Long Island Chapter of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) was chosen by their national organization through a grant from the 3M Company to encourage school children to participate in a poster contest heightening awareness in the areas of hand hygiene, flu vaccination and respiratory etiquette. Broadlawn Manor Launches New Cardiac Rehabilitation Service -- “THE PURPLE HEART PROGRAM”
(September 16, 2011) Gerard Kaiser, Vice President of Senior Services for Broadlawn Manor is pleased to offer a new and innovative Cardiac Program benefitting countless members of our community who may encounter heart conditions during their lifetime. Individuals experiencing diagnoses such as congestive heart failure, heart attack, arrhythmia, angina or recovering from a cardiac procedure or surgery that require hospitalization will be able to improve their ability to return to normal activities by enrolling in the “Purple Heart Program” following their discharge from the hospital. Broadlawn Manor is an affiliate of North Shore-LIJ Health System and is delighted to parallel their focus of providing world class cardiac surgery in Suffolk County by providing the best in cardiac rehabilitation. Linked Senior was added to her arsenal of goodies in July quickly following the heralded “Brainy Day Activity Program” implemented in March. (May 13, 2011) GREAT NECK, NY – The North Shore-LIJ Health System and the Long Island Home, operator of South Oaks Hospital and Broadlawn Manor Nursing & Rehabilitative Center in Amityville, today announced a clinical affiliation agreement aimed at improving access to mental health and substance abuse services for children, adolescents and adults in the New York metropolitan area. Broadlawn Manor Adult Day Health Center Celebrates Centenarian: Viola Klonowski of Massapequa
(August 16, 2010) Broadlawn Manor Adult Day Health Center (ADHC) celebrated in grand style a major milestone in the life of Viola Klonowski, registrant and Massapequa resident. Viola Klonowski, nee Zaborksi, born July l9, 1910 and raised in Maspeth, Queens was l00 years old this July. Viola always enjoyed being busy and welcomed time to crochet and travel while spending time with her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Joyce Gotard, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Viola has had a full life filled with family and friends but anybody who knows Viola knows about her love for the New York Mets. Her love for the Mets provided the perfect backdrop for her birthday decorations as well as enlarged $100.00 bills with Viola’s picture inserted instead of Ben Franklin. A three tiered birthday cake, music and dancing rounded out the celebration with family, friends, registrants and staff all in attendance. It was a wonderful day. Mr. Detor, President and CEO, welcomed the opportunity to honor two extraordinary women, Cindy S. Schechter, Rph, Vice President of Client Services for Shore Pharmaceutical Providers, Inc. and Marcia B. Smith, Esq., Partner, at Iseman, Cunningham, Riester & Hyde, LLP. Ms. Schechter has played a critical role in the successful transitioning to contracted pharmacy services and Ms. Smith has been an invaluable asset on a wide range of legal issues. Broadlawn Manor Joins AmeriCorps Initiative to Promote Volunteer Service to our Local Baby Boomers
(March 11, 2010) Broadlawn Manor, a not-for-profit skilled nursing and rehabilitation center of excellence, serving the Long Island region announces its special selection as a host site for a unique national initiative called “AmeriCorps in Eldercare Settings,” or ACES. Gerard M. Kaiser, Vice President of Senior Services, stated, “We are excited about this new initiative and the groundbreaking role that Broadlawn Manor will play.” Mr. Kaiser was delighted to reveal Broadlawn Manor was selected through a competitive process as an ACES host site, an opportunity made possible through an AmeriCorps grant awarded to the Foundation for Long Term Care. (March 8, 2010) Robert E. Detor, President and CEO for The Long Island Home, operator of South Oaks Hospital and Broadlawn Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center announced this important award given by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority for a Renewable Energy Solar Electric Project, entitled R & R (Reduce & Renew). Mr. Detor stated, “The funding is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and will provide a permanent, long term investment that will ultimately preserve jobs for our employees and increase efficiency”. (January 23, 2009) The Long Island Homeís 8th Annual Tapestry Event, the Presidentís Cocktail Reception, being held on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at The Carltun in East Meadow will honor John C. Mesloh. The Tapestry of Life Award is the highest honor bestowed on an individual by The Long Island Home. Recipients of this award have all demonstrated advocacy in quality healthcare as well as outstanding leadership, commitment and dedication to the services provided by South Oaks Hospital and Broadlawn Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
