November 4, 2011 - The Long Island Chapter of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) was chosen by their national organization through a grant from the 3M Company to encourage school children to participate in a poster contest heightening awareness in the areas of hand hygiene, flu vaccination and respiratory etiquette.
The contest at South Oaks Hospital was held during International Infection Prevention Week – October l7th – October 21st. All posters submitted by our children and adolescents were proudly displayed and ballots cast by employees determined the first and second place winners. The first place winner received a $150.00 gift card and the second place winner received $75.00 worth of age appropriate toys. The first place poster will be submitted to the APIC Long Island wide contest for consideration for a grand prize.
Susan Bayh Martino, Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator, RN, BSN, MBA, and Lori DeLucia, Creative Arts Therapist, CMT agreed this was a wonderful opportunity for the participants to express their creative ideas while reinforcing the importance of hand washing, flu vaccination and respiratory etiquette.
