November 4, 2011 - The Long Island Chapter of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) was chosen by their national organization through a grant from the 3M Company to encourage school children to participate in a poster contest heightening awareness in the areas of hand hygiene, flu vaccination and respiratory etiquette.

The contest at South Oaks Hospital was held during International Infection Prevention Week October l7th October 21st. All posters submitted by our children and adolescents were proudly displayed and ballots cast by employees determined the first and second place winners. The first place winner received a $150.00 gift card and the second place winner received $75.00 worth of age appropriate toys. The first place poster will be submitted to the APIC Long Island wide contest for consideration for a grand prize.

Susan Bayh Martino, Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator, RN, BSN, MBA, and Lori DeLucia, Creative Arts Therapist, CMT agreed this was a wonderful opportunity for the participants to express their creative ideas while reinforcing the importance of hand washing, flu vaccination and respiratory etiquette.
