2009 Tapestry Cocktail Reception Resounding Success
(November 23, 2009) More than 170 friends of The Long Island Home attended the 2009 Tapestry Reception at The Carltun, Eisenhower Park on November 12, 2009. For the first time in the history of the Tapestry Event, an employee of The Long Island Home was honored.

John E. McGorry was on the staff of The Long Island Home for over twenty-three years and was Director of Therapeutic Recreation. During those years he became an integral part of The Long Island Home. He initiated the C.A.R.E. Course (Challenge Activities Ropes Experience), enhanced the Fitness & Wellness Program and supervised the entire Therapeutic Recreation Program. Through John's efforts, the C.A.R.E. Course was expanded to include children from the community in a summer program with over 233 children receiving scholarships to attend. Sadly, John succumbed to his illness on October 23, 2009. His family and friends attended the Tapestry Cocktail Reception as well as many supporters of The Long Island Home.
In keeping with our vision of promoting wellness and the standard of quality care our community has come to expect from The Long Island Home, we plan to utilize the funds raised from this event to provide scholarships for children to our Summer Adventure Experience as well as to improve and enhance our wellness programs.
We would like to thank all of our friends for their generous support, many of whom participated in our 2009 Scroll of Honor.
